Public Servants in the Limelight [6th December 2007]

[6th December 2007]

A report written by intern Carrie Huston Webb for the Public Servants of the Year Awards.

The Public Servants of the Year Awards ceremony was held in the Great Room of the Grosvenor House Hotel. It is an annual event and each year attendance grows. This year there were about 690 guests. The list included well known people such as Prof. Sir Michael Lyons (the Chair of the judging panel), Sir Gus O’Donnell (Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service), and Sir Trevor McDonald OBE of ITV News and Felicity Barr of Al Jazeera International as the hosts.
The night started out with drinks, moved on to dinner, and ended with the awards ceremony. There were sixteen awards given out during the night. The awards honoured both groups and individuals in categories such as education, health, housing, and local government. The two main and final awards went to the most outstanding public service team and the most outstanding public servant of the year.
